Wendell Berry has featured here on the still web a few times, his beautiful and heartbreaking poems brings us face to face with our complicity in destroying the world we live in. In this video he speaks to his ideas about how to be in the world, and how searching for The Big Individual Solution is the very thing that has created our fragmentation from place as essential to life. His small ‘s’ collective long term solution will not make headlines:  “Don’t get into this with the idea that you are going to solve all the problems even in your lifetime. The important thing to do is to learn all you can about where you are. And if you are going to work there, it becomes even more important to learn all you can about the place, to make ‘common cause’ with that place. And then resign in yourself, be patient enough to work with it [the place] for a long time. And then, what you do is increase the possibility that you’ll make a good example. This is worth a listen if you want to experience a man who had made the tough choice to live in the pause and listen to what our earth needs aside from us imposing our insatiable greed on it. A useful reflection for us all for the start of the year?
