Today, take time to learn about the Tadashi Susuki actor training method. There are many videos online but we recommend ’10 ways of walking’ as an introduction. The method is a striking examples of the need for practice to develop our ability to find stillness in movement. The trainers refer to this as actors developing a controlled openness, a way to move whilst the centre of the body stays still with all movement emanating from the centre. You may just want to enjoy the video and the charming narration as you think about how this applies to your movement through your day. Or you may want to challenge yourself to a spot of ‘duck walking’ which is the last way of walking shown in the video. A duck walk? We hear you say. Her is a written explanation. Note the juxtaposition of movement and stillness in the description.
