Today, we practice beholding. What is beholding? To experience an object or image firsthand. To look at an object and image with full attention, with regard and when possible, to hold and touch the object. Find ways to make this a vivid encounter which “often leads to another kind of encounter” Deborah Haynes.

We can apply a discipline of contemplation which “includes the natural human capacity for knowing through silence, looking inward, pondering deeply, beholding, witnessing the contents of our consciousness, and so forth.” Tobin Hart reminds us. Take a familiar object or person that is around you today and practice beholding for 15 minutes. How does your perception change when you behold in silence in the way we described above?
