Today’s post will work at many levels. You can just watch this video; at almost 20 minutes with not speech, no music just the sounds of activity in the wild, you may not last through to the end. Or you might be transfixed by it and connect with this human making the essentials for life from scratch in a way that logic cannot explain – gaining an easeful mind as you watch. And this daily exercise could end right there. Or you might be curious about the idea of Primitive Technology:
Primitive technology is a hobby where you build things in the wild completely from scratch using no modern tools or materials. These are the strict rules: If you want a fire, use a fire stick – An axe, pick up a stone and shape it – A hut, build one from trees, mud, rocks etc. The challenge is seeing how far you can go without utilizing modern technology. I do not live in the wild, but enjoy building shelter, tools, and more, only utilizing natural materials.
There is a You Tube Channel which could keep you away from work for a long time, 4 years of videos that show you how to build stuff in this way. And you could take it further: Put the book that has just been published in your gift list for this year, or better yet buy it for yourself and keep it handy for that time when the world ends…
HT to Jason Kottke for this find, who is a fan and has been for many years.
