Set aside some time and gather a pen and paper.  Find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed  to reflect on the past year. What did I accomplish this year? What things, people, and events am I grateful for? What are some things that I learned about myself this year? What am I proud of about myself? You may want to add a poem or blessing that reminds you that it is possible to be grateful for something if not for everything. We like this one: “May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of their hand.”

After you’ve finished writing your letter, seal it and mail it to yourself. When it arrives, you can keep  it somewhere private and read it whenever you need to be reminded that gratitude can help us through tough times.
